It was in the early morning of April 18, 2009, about 8.30 am, 41 CFC leaders together with SFC Core and HOLD Core from Nairobi and 15 CFC leaders from the 22 parishes in the coast area gathered together at Amani Center, Nairobi to attend the 1st Mission core retreat for Kenya.

Everyone came with excitement and joy, the day was started with the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist, celebrated by Bishop David Kamua (Auxillary Bishop for Nairobi) and con-celebrated by Fr. Sigfried Watigna (Spiritual Chaplain for CFC in the Archdiocese of Mombasa). The homily of Bishop reminded the CFC leaders that “without family there is no hope” for everything can be strengthened through the family. He reminded the CFC Mission core of their calling and sent them by letting them keep in their hearts “that the work to evangelize is urgent and it needs to be done.” The good Bishop also encouraged the group by telling them that “you are the church”, it is not only the clergy that will make the Catholic Church grow but greatly the lay communities like CFC. The Bishop closed the homily with a message of hope and prayer. That each one of us needs to pray and we need to pray for each other. Pray for your bishops and priests so that they may always be a good shepherd to the Church.
