 CFC Hold Conference

by: Chelo Escalona

September 27, 2009, Nairobi - CFC Nairobi held its first Marian Conference entitled, "Chain of Love" at St. Austin Parish in Lavington on Sunday afternoon. It was very interesting and fruitful afternoon as the participants learned what was to know about how and why we pray the Holy Rosary. The celebration was also very timely as September and October are months dedicated in our faith to the Virgin Mary.

The program started with a personal sharing from a guest, a CFC Handmaid from the Philippines, sister Dale Villamor. Sister Dale shared about how she was changed by God in the Handmaids of the Lord, the challenges brought about by God's purification in order that she may experience God's goodness that now overflows in her life as she abides by God's call to follow and serve Him. What followed was a meaningful prayer of thanksgiving and a worship song to open the afternoon program entitled, "Open the Eyes of My Heart."

"Chain of Love", taken from a compilation of celebrations in the Marian Conference, has its main focus in the praying of the Holy Rosary - the Beads, the Prayers and its parallels in our lives. The main talk that afternoon - The Rosary: The Crown of Roses was given by another sister who had also travelled all the way from the Philippines, sister Nene Dimalibot. Sister Nene stressed the importance of the Rosary as a gift of love given to us by God through the Blessed Mother. In the talk, we remember how our life and prayer is centered upon Christ. Everything begins in Christ, everthing leads towards Him, and everything, through Him, in the "Holy Spirit", leads to the Father. It's a chain that binds us to the Father, like Christ who is bound to the Father and to us! And most especially, the Rosary reminds us of how we are connected to the people around us - our families, co-workers and co-believers whom Christ commanded us to love. People we offer our prayers to whenever we pray the Holy Rosary.

The culmination of the afternoon was the Living Rosary, participated by our very own member from Couples For Christ, Singles For Christ, Youth For Christ and Handmaids of the Lord. Worth applauding was the voice of Mama Mary, led by a Singles For Christ in Shauri Moyo, through which all participants actively listened to as it powerfully led everyone through each decade of the mysteries of the Holy Rosary.

We thank our guests, sisters Dale and Nene for taking us through this year's Marian Conference. We hope to see them come back again and again in Nairobi. We also thank the CFC Handmaids of the Lord, Couples For Christ and CFC Singles For Christ of Nairobi for the dedication and commitment. And in all our upcoming activities, we look forward to serving with you again.

May God be praised forever and ever! Amen.
